SWST 45th Annual Meeting
June 23, 2002
Madison, Wisconsin

The 2002 SWST Annual Meeting took place on Sunday, June 23, 2002 in Madison, Wisconsin,at the Monona Terrace Convention Center/Hilton Hotel.

The technical session, titled "State of the Profession: Reviewing our Accomplishments, Establishing our Breadth, Outlining our Future", was held from 7:30 am to 11:20 am.

An Awards Presentation took place from 11:20 am to 12:00 noon. Awards which were presented include:

1. Distinguished Service Award - Frank C. Beall
   

2. George G. Marra Award for Excellence in Writing

   • Dai, Chunping, "Viscoelasticity of wood composite mats during consolidation", Volume 33(3): 353-363 -- First Place

   • Tabarsa, Taghi and Chui, Ying Hei, "Characterizing microscopic behavior of wood under transverse compression. Part II. Effect of species and loading direction", Volume 33(2): 223-232 -- Second Place

3. Student Poster Competition Winners - Judges for the competition were: Bruce Cutter, Steve Verrill,
   and Robert Meyer.
   1st Place - Iris Vazquez-Cooz , SUNY-ESF
   2nd Place - Patrick Rappold, SUNY-ESF

The Annual Business Meeting ran from 12:00 noon to 12:45 pm (along with lunch).

Joint Society of Wood Science and Technology/Forest Products Society events were as follows:

• Plenary Sessions from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

• Technical Forum and Student Posters from 4:00 to 5:30

• Joint SWST/FPS Host Reception from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
