This year we lost our good friend Tom Maloney after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Everyone who knew Tom is saddened by this passing of a truly great man. After consulting with Tom’s family, we all agreed that an endowed scholarship would be a fitting tribute to honor Tom’s commitment to education as we know he would be pleased to help deserving graduate students working in the field of wood composites and engineering. It is our intent to create the Thomas M. Maloney Graduate Scholarship with a goal of raising at least $100,000 for this endowment. If you ...

In this case, early stage refers to students through someone within three years of receiving their PhD. We received just over 100 abstracts from early-stage researchers. We see this as a great sign for the future of SWST and this day is designed specifically to embrace the new generation of researchers. SWST is evolving quickly to meet the fast-changing research and education landscape of our members. We have held four International Conventions outside of North America. The 2014 Convention in Zvolen Slovakia was a huge success. Heavy participation from across Europe helped increase SWST membership by over 10%. In 2015 we continue developing the Society by introducing a host of firsts to the International Convention. This year we strike out on our own to hold our first North American Convention that is a full week, scientific learning and networking event. Our success in internationalizing the society is clearly illustrated by the ...

1. The Executive Board of SWST has made a decision to extend your 2014 dues for another 6 months! This means that your 2015 dues are not due until July 1, 2015 and will continue through June 30, 2016.
