SWST began accrediting schools for their Wood Science and Technology programs in 1984.
Standards, procedures and guidelines for accrediting educational programs leading to a professional degree in wood science and technology or forest products can be found in the Accreditation Handbook.
If you are interested in finding out more about accreditation, see the attached flyer or contact the Executive Office at execdir@dev.swst.org
Annual Accreditation Program Report form: Five-year interim reports are no longer required. However, all programs accredited by SWST are now required to submit an annual report to maintain accreditation by the Society. A template for this report is available for download, and can also be found in the Appendix of the Accreditation Handbook. This report is used to identify important changes and accomplishments that have occurred in the program during the past year. It is also used to identify the need for the program to submit a substantive change report. Reports must be filed with the Executive Director by February 1 of each year. Failure to submit an annual report may result in the program being placed on probation.
SWST Accreditation Response to Covid-19 Pandemic
We recognize these are extraordinary times, and SWST accredited programs are having to modify normal practices to address institutional and governmental guidelines and directives while striving to achieve learning outcomes. SWST will not be imposing any penalties for temporary changes in practice that our accredited programs need to put in place for the safety of students, staff, faculty, and communities. Such changes might include expanding S/U or P/NP options over normal grading for spring 2020 terms, teaching field labs via video-conference, modifying summer field experiences, or suspending internship requirements for students who may not have had opportunities available to them in the spring/summer of 2020 due to disruptions caused by the pandemic.
We do request that you use the Annual Accreditation Program Report forms available on our accreditation resources webpage to document succinctly any changes you have had to implement, and would appreciate receiving these by the normal due date of February 1. If you have specific questions about your accredited degree programs, please contact the Executive Director of SWST.
Best wishes as you continue to serve your students while keeping your communities safe.
