Young Researcher/Mentor Outdoor Activity Day

Are you a young scientist/professional or current student, looking for networking and mentoring opportunities at SWST 2023?  Would you like to do so in a fun, social manner with recognized professors from around the world?

Young researchers will spend an afternoon with recognized professors out of the conference center, have the chance to discuss their ideas and get insight into their career paths while enjoying an outside activity.

• Hiking:  No cost – Enjoy nature on our scenic walking trail. The path is approximately a half mile, and is both quiet and beautiful.  A 5k walking and jogging course is also available on-site.
• Biking:  Bike rental is $64/day  which includes a 2-3 hour pass to the the mountain bike trail.  Mountain bikers agree, life is better on a mountain bike. Enjoy approximately 4 miles of purpose-built mountain trail on rolling terrain designed for all experience levels.
• Treetop Adventure Course:  (Must arrive by 11:00 and Reserve ahead) $55 – Asheville Treetops Adventure Park, an exciting Asheville attraction,  is an aerial challenge course in the trees that has over 77 unique climbing, rolling, walking, jumping, swinging, and rappelling challenges anchored to over 30 trees and towering poles tucked into a wooded park for ages 4 and over. These challenge elements are divided into 7 different aerial adventure trails ranging from beginner to challenging levels.  There are several elements that are representative of the activities you can do in North Carolina including a sky kayak, a parkway tunnel, a snowboard in the sky, swinging hula hoops, bumper boats and a zip hang glider, all in the trees that make this a “Truly Asheville Adventure.”  2 hours
• Asheville Zipline Adventure Course:  (Must arrive by 11:00 and Reserve ahead) $89 – The Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventure is an urban canopy tour that includes 11 ziplines and 3 sky bridges in treetop platforms on several large adventure towers with mountain and skyline views of Asheville. Jump on the Skyline Express to fly side-by-side with a friend for 1,200 feet. The three sky bridges are opportunities to slow down and look around in our largest trees to learn about the history of the city and the trees.  3 hours.  Maximum of 10 people for this activity so sign up early.
• Golf:  $20, cart cost extrta – 9-hole, par 34 golf course or golf range. The on-site course is walkable or guests may rent a cart. The course captures the beauty of the Western North Carolina mountains and offers just enough challenge to keep the game interesting.
• Tennis – no charge – With 20 on-site tennis courts, The Asheville Racquet Club (ARC) is a tennis lover’s dream. Guests of the Crowne Plaza® Resort Asheville are invited to use our tennis facilities. Home to the UNCA Bulldogs and host site of many USTA State Championships, the state-of-the-art facilities offers you 4 Indoor Courts, 6 Outdoor Hard Courts, and 10 Outdoor Clay Courts.  Outdoor courts are available complimentary to resort guests. Tennis courts are subject to availability and weather permitting.
