Airports:
There are several ways for you to get to Portorož from these airports.
Ljubljana: Because you will probably have entered Europe at another city and already cleared customs, upon arrival in Ljubljana you would simply pick up your luggage and go out into the arrivals hall. Outside you will find the GoOpti location for your transport to Portorož or the shuttle/taxi service to take you to the main bus station to get a bus to Portorož or you would take a taxi or shuttle to go to downtown Ljubljana where you can spend a few days in the beautiful capital of Slovenia before taking GoOpti, bus or rental car to Portorož.
Venice: This might be your first entry into Europe so you will have to clear immigration, get your luggage, clear customs and exit to the arrivals hall. Outside you will find the GoOpti transport, the bus stop, or the rental car for your travel to Portorož.
Rental car is possible in both Ljubljana and Venice. Each country may have specific rules and guidelines so be sure to check with the rental car agency and mention the countries you will be traveling to. Some companies will not rent a car if you are traveling to multiple countries so be sure to check. For driving on motorways in Slovenia, it is mandatory for you to have a vignette. If you rent a car in Italy, you need an international driving permit.
Motor cycles, private cars and vans whose maximum permitted weight does not exceed 3.5 tons must display a vignette to use all Slovenian motorways and those express roads managed and maintained by the toll road operator.
More information on the DARS website (email: cuc@dars.si).

You can purchase vignettes at all petrol stations in Slovenia and in neighbouring countries as well as at branches of national and foreign automobile clubs, at post offices in Slovenia and at some kiosks. For more information there is a list of sales points. Cost is 7.50 euros per week. Do not risk driving on the motorways without the vignette sticker, since the penalties are severe. The penalty for driving on a motorway without a valid vignette or without paying the toll is a fine of EUR 300 to 800.

Depending on which airport you choose to fly into and out of, there are different airport setups. Ljubljana is a much smaller airport and you will be traveling to another European country before departing Europe where you will probably do an immigration check. Venice is an international airport and is large. When you arrive, you look at the monitors to find your flight to see which is your check-in counter. It is possible your counter won’t be open until 3 hours before the flight. After your check-in, you proceed to security. If you are traveling to the United States you have a separate security line. Be sure to allow enough time to get through this area.
