Sustainable Forestry in Chile offers students an opportunity to explore the social, environmental, and economic aspects of forests and wood products in Chile. Students will gain real world understanding of the ideas and goals of sustainable forestry as they follow the economic cycle of natural Chilean forests and forest plantations—from seedlings, to forests, to forest products. This field based course will provide an overview of sustainable forestry from a multidisciplinary standpoint including silviculture, forest ecology, forest operations, wood engineering, and marketing. Assignments will aim to allow students flexibility to create and complete projects that demonstrate how Chile is linked to and compares with sustainable forestry and wood projects in the United States.
