The 58th SWST International Convention was held June 7-12, 2015 in the Grand Teton National Park, at the Jackson Lake Lodge in Jackson, Wyoming, USA. The overall theme was “Renewable Materials and the Bio-Economy”

Participants

There were 171 participants from 23 countries, and 5 continents. We had 109 speakers and 69 poster presenters. Sixteen of the poster presenters competed in the Student Poster Competition. Of the 171 participants, 91 became new members (8 new emerging, 39 new full, 44 new students).

Features

A Welcome Reception was held Sunday evening, June 7 from 18:00 to 20:00, at the Jackson Lake Lodge, where guests enjoyed an “Idaho Baked Potato Bar”. A Barbecue Banquet was held Friday evening, June 12, from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Jackson Lake Lodge Pool Terrace. Live music was provided by Vince & Mindi, a local western music group.
There was not a formal tour during the Convention, but one day was set up for attendees to tour and enjoy the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
There were several unique first-time features of this Convention:

  1. Early Stage Researcher Day: Where only students and recent graduates presented their research for 1 day
  2. Two mini-workshops were held: Publishing in Wood and Fiber Science; and Publishing in BioProducts Business
  3. Parallel Organization Day: IUFRO 5.10.00 Forest Products Marketing and Business Management Research Group held a concurrent all-day session on Friday, June 12.
